Predictions?

I'll go with ...

1 - Randall
2 - Toney
3 - Mikko
4 - Ben
5 - Bone

Coach D could go with 5 seniors if he wanted but I'm thinking we start here with the 3 guards. Brown and Smith are the first off the bench.

1.Randall
2.Toney
3.Mikko
4.Stywall
5.Bone

that would probly be the most logical lineup, you could argue that evans could start at 2 guard, but ive never seen him play, so i dont know. Pete Brown came on strong towards the end of the last year so I could see him starting some games. And what about sellers, i just started goin to uncg last year, so ive never seen him play.

I'm gonna go with

1. Randall- star in the making
2. Evans- rumored to be best player on team last year
3. Mikko-pure shooter, better guards, less pressure
4. Stywall-great basketball player, just no position
5. Brown-could finally have a break out season.

Off the bench

Bone-if he can stay healthy will rotate with brown
Jackson-shown signs of greatness-if he adds weight look out
Hoffer-some of the players say he has relentless energy
Vandussen-players are saying he is an ultimate gym rat, so the articles must be true
Sellers- if anything will add a body to bang with.

Out
Toney- needed to add more to game in off season, if he did he will play if not....
Smith-g has multiple people who can play the position this year. Pg was a problem last year
Spooner-will push young guards in practice

Spartang,

Where does Cole fit into that rotation?

Sellers was pretty big recruit coming out of HS (see this video). He didn't really play much his first year here because there was a log jam at his poistion. Then redshirted last year, obviously. From what I've seen of him in the summer league, he still looks unsure of himself. He'll probably get some time at the 3 & 4 spots. But I expect him to be way down the bench.

I think the SoCon record will be more important than the overall record. Especially with that brutal OOC schedule. I think 8-10 or better is a real possibility.

Have a little faith man. Having seen these freshmen play some the past few weeks, I think you're going to be at least mildly surprised. Dement has a good group of them coming in. Also with 5 scholarships to give out next year, we'd be putting ourselves behind the "8 ball" by switching coaches at the end of the season.

I don't think that its unrealistic at all to say that we will be above 500 in the SoCon this year. Honestly, how many games were we leading at the half last year just to blow it big in the 2nd? I can't even count how many times I remember us being up a couple of points and then within a minute we would be down by 10 just because we couldn't beat a press. We gave away a bunch of games last year. I don't anticipate that happening again. I really do feel like we have the chance to shock and surprise people. All im saying is, its time to make a name for ourselves. Let it be known that there is a llegitimate college basketball team in Greensboro

Ok, now that I've officially seen every UNCG player (except DeAngelo and Mikko) I can answer this much more definitively. Here's the starting lineup and the backups (in order)

1. Randall ... Spooner, Smith
2. Evans ... KVD, Toney
3. Mikko ... Hoffer, Sellers
4. Ben ... Hoffer/Bone
5.Cole ... Brown, Jackson

I mean I do know that he had a big night last week with 35 and 10 but sometimes stats lie when it comes to summer league play.

Cole can really play. Last night was the first chance I had to see him b/c he's only played in a few games. The team they played last night had Toney Woods (WFU's 7 footer). Cole had 16 points and at least a half dozen rebounds. Honestly this style of play doesn't even suit him at all b/c he plays with his back to the basket. He's got a lot of moves around the basket and the fact he's a lefty catches people off guard. Here's the kicker part, I watched him knock down shots out to 15-16 ft. with regularity during warm ups. He battled hard but got pushed around a bit on defense. However, Woods had about 20 lbs of muscle on him. If he adds 25-30 lbs, he'll be unstoppable. As it stands though, he's the best big man we've got as far as I've seen.

Emails I've received tell me he's the most polished big man we've had in a while. I mean UNCG hasn't had a legitimate big man (Kyle Hines aside) since Schuck or Cherry.

If Cole can add 15-20 lbs of muscle, he'll be a 16-10 guy for UNCG night in and night out.

He's already taller than all three of those guys. Could be a 16-10 guy this year if he gets the ball enough.

Right now UNCG is a good PF away from having a super roster. I think Hoffer will get there, just maybe not this year. He's a legit 6'7" or maybe even 6'8" (him and Bone looked almost the same height standing next to each other last night) and strong. He muscled Bone out of the way quite a few times last night. Also, that dude has a motor that seems to be always running b/c he gets his hands on a lot of rebounds.

I'm afraid KVD may be the odd man out when it comes to freshmen playing time this year. There just are too many people at the guard positions. Also, from what I've seen of Sean Spooner I think he's really improved his game this off season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a scholarship after this season considering G's gonna have 5 available.
