Other than Cole, it looks like we have no incoming freshmen next year. We'll have a couple of transfers and Sellers will be back from injury, but I still don't think it's a good idea to have a one person class.

According to this, we are looking at one other prospect right now, a guard.

D'Mitri Riggs
Shooting guard
Bloomington (IL) Bloomington
AAU: Spiece Gym Rats

Josh Freelove
Point guard
Plantation (FL) American Heritage School
AAU: Gold Coast

And the apple of my eye:

Kyle Randall | Point Guard Hometown: Hermitage, PA
Kennedy Catholic H.S. (PA)
Position rank: Point Guard # 28
Ht: 6'0" Wt: 165

October, 2008: Randall is a true scoring point guard who led the entire state of Pennsylvania in scoring as a junior (26.5 ppg). He possesses excellent speed and quickness for the one position. His mid-range game is his best attribute as he can pull up and consistently knock down jumpers or take the ball to the rim. Kyle can get in the lane against anyone with his speed. He can also kick the ball to open teammates if he needs to. He can shoot the three but he is most comfortable attacking off the dribble. He compares to 2009 guard Tim Frazier (Houston/Strake Jesuit/Committed to Penn State) but is a better shooter. Some Big East teams are starting to sniff around.

On Scout.com it doesn't even show us on the radar as far as going after thoughs kids. Do you know if we have offered them yet? cause it looks like those prospects are already high on other schools. We need to offer early if we are to get any of these sleepers.

According to Scout, the only other recruit we're going after is the guy I posted a link about, Greg Wooten. Rivals doesn't list any schools under his name.

On Rivals, we are listed as being on Josh Freelove's list. I couldn't even find anything about him on ESPN or on Scout.

ESPN and Scout have Riggs as only looking at schools in the Midwest, but Rivals has him with a medium interest in UNCG.

From what I could tell, Kyle Randall is not listed on Rivals, but he is on Scout and ESPN. Scout doesn't have UNCG listed in schools he's considering, but ESPN does.

It's certainly not unheard of for different services to have different information, but none of the stuff about the above players is consistent, which I thought was weird.

We need some good guards, so it's encouraging to see that the staff is going after some. However, I'm not sure that any of these guys will wind up here.

Anyone know why we don't try some of the local talent here in the triad area????? I found a 6'8'' PF named Julius Brooks that goes to Page HS and College of Charleston has offered him. If one of the best programs in our conference wants him I think UNCG should at least take a look. And by recruiting local it would bring a little help with putting people in the seats.

As far as new players for next year we know that Darius will be back, the red shirt that transfered from ECU will be playing, Brian Cole will in our recruiting class and as it stands right now Kyle Randall has given a Verbal to UNCG. I know that the UNCG players played with Kyle when he came down and they say he is freaky fast and nasty. There has also been a lot of talk about the redshirt that came from ECU last year and how he is really good.

I really think things are turning around in Greensboro. Hopefully, the Fran hangover will be gone by the time next year's recruiting class is in place. This is a guard's league and an exceptional pg will be the key for UNCG's future.

All this team needs is two things:

1. Players
2. To stop playing the syracuse zone defense until they get 6'9" front line players with a 7'5" wingspan that can make the whole thing work like Syracuse. I'd like to see us get good enough to go man. Hopefully, this year and next year's recruiting classes can do that.

I've always thought it seemed like Dement would prefer to play more press defenses and play at a quicker pace. I think the zone we played this year was based more on the fact that all of our guards could be beat off the dribble any time the other team wanted. In Dement's (or Jensen's) defense, our defense this year didn't lose us many games.

Julius Brooks doesn't have any grades and will most likely be a JUCO kid. ALso, the high point boards say that one of our assistants is heading to HPU. Havent seen it mentioned anywhere on any websites yet, but it looks like there will be an open spot on the staff.

According to Scout, the only other prospect we're looking at is a PG who's originally from Bodymore, Murdaland, but plays prep ball in Princeton, NJ.

I, like Dash, hope that Randall isn't having second thoughts now that Easley is leaving. I would like to think he committed to UNCG because of the school and its basketball program, not because of an assistant coach.

I hope Kyle stays committed too. But it concerns me a little bit that they are going after a lot of small guards and no wing players in which we don't have many after Mikko and Toney. I think we need more help in the G/F spot as well as the PG spot. I hope they know what they're doing because the backcourt is looking pretty small.

I disagree with ya chaps. I think with a few years of seasoning, Eargle could make a good wing player. He's shown the ability to be able to put the ball on the floor and drive it on a bigger player. He'll be able to post up a smaller wing player. If he can develop a good mid-range game, He can play the spot really well.

Also, don't forget that Sellers will be back this year.

I agree that Eargle could be a good wing player and everyone knows that he can basically jump out of the building however, it is obviously that you guys don't know that Eargle is not going to be a factor. Why do I say that? Well, because Eargle is no longer on UNCG's team. He quit not long ago due to family reasons. So now what? We have lost 3 potential great players in this past season; Landon Clement, Damian Eargle, and Daniel Oliver. All 3 will not be returning for the 2009-2010 season. I just worry about our presence inside because we are small but I have heard that Dement has the guys working out super hard even now inorder to get them bigger so they wont be pushed around again. There is a lot of pressure on Brian Cole (the only tall recruit we have coming in) however. Im excited, but real nervous. Im real excited about buying my season tickets!
